Summer Assignment

(4 short assignments due on the first day of class. See below)

1. Research & Select at least 2 positions you would like to interview for in the VE company (this involves research on potential positions within the firms). Write a minimum of a 1 paragraph pitch that would CONVINCE ME that you would be GREAT for this position in the firm! You must have an electronic version of this pitch on the first day of school. This can be done in Microsoft Word or Google Docs. (REMEMBER - Other students are applying for the same positions so make yourself stand out! Research what the positions are responsible for and why you would be the perfect fit for that role in the company.)

2. Come prepared with an electronically written resume in Microsoft Word or Google Docs. Your Resumes will be finalized during the first week of school. See the link below for more information on how to write and prepare your resume.

3. Answer the following 11 Questions in an electronic document. Research them but write your answer in 2-3 sentences in your own words. (Do the best you can by researching on google or asking your family and friends. All of these questions will be extremely easy to discuss as we talk about economics throughout the year.)

  • What is Economics?

  • What is Supply & Demand? Give two examples of Supply & Demand.

  • What are interest rates? Would you borrow money from someone if interest rates were high? Why/Why not?

  • What is a stock of a company? How much is Apple Stock worth? How much is Starbucks Stock worth?

  • Who do we pay taxes to? What are tax dollars used for? Do you agree with paying taxes? Why/Why not?

  • Where do you think the United States Economy is today based on this chart? Are we in a slump, a recession, an economic recovery or an economics boom? Why do you think?

  • What is debt and why can it be bad?

  • What is currently happening with the Greek Economy? Why does it affect the United States if Greece is in Europe? Think of looking up the term "Global Economy" when thinking how Greece impacts the United States.

  • Name 2 features that would make an Apple iPhone 6 better than it is today. If it had those features why would that help Apple?

  • Scenario: You work at a store. They are laying off workers. You can take a pay cut and save someone's job, or you get a pay raise, have to take on more responsibility, and someone loses their job. What do you decide to do?

  • Scenario: You have $500. How do you spend it?

    • Save all $500 in the bank.

    • Buy two pairs of Jordans.

    • Buy 1 Belt from Louis Vuitton

    • Buy 9 shares of Starbucks Stock.

    • A Combination of them or something completely different?

 

4. This Task is ONLY FOR STUDENTS APPLYING FOR THE MANAGEMENT POSITIONS (CEO, CFO, COO, CPO). Each student will pitch their vision to the class and during your Management Interviews.

  • Read through the Firm's Corporate Documents below, write in a list or paragraph form to present during interviews and to your fellow classmates in the company, and come up with:

    • Your own Vision/Mission Statement for the Company 

    • Your own new/fresh Ideas for the Company to pursue in 2015 (new product ideas, etc.)

    • Your own direction for the Company (who to sell to - target market, and how to sell to them - marketing/advertising)

  • Review the Firm Corporate Documents for 2014-2015 ONLY FOR THE FIRM YOU ARE SIGNED UP FOR. Students are programmed into one of the three Firms below.
